Sprinkler Sign Off
You’ve been there,
right?
An old DOB
application that won’t go away and all you keep hearing from the expediter is
that the sprinkler is not signed off.
Arggggghhhh…..
The NYC Department of
Buildings requires sprinkler and plumbing work types to be signed off before
the application can move towards the Letter of Completion being issued.
Keeping
track of the sprinkler progress and inspections during the construction will
help avoid this delay at the end of the project.
1. Ensure the Sprinkler permit is obtained by a reputable
Contractor.
2. Confirm the work is being done by the Contractor holding the
permit.
3. If roughing or piping inspections are required for the project,
the Sprinkler Contractor should schedule these inspections prior to any of the
work that might be covered by ceilings, walls, soffits, etc...
4. Keep the Special Inspector in the loop so he / she can conduct
the inspections in a timely manner. This will also help in rectifying any field deficiencies before
the construction progresses too far for easy access and corrective work.
5. Request the Expediter to obtain the required TR forms from the
Special Inspector of record and have them entered into the NYC DOB Building Information System.
6. Once the TR forms are entered and the work is completed, the Sprinkler
Contractor of record can call for the final sprinkler inspection with the
Department of Buildings.
7. Check the Building Information System website to confirm the work type is "X signed off."
